Roll size is only one part of a PVC flooring inquiry. For a bus or coach interior, the usable layout also depends on the vehicle floor shape, pattern direction, obstacles and the buyer’s installation plan. A clear drawing helps the buyer and supplier discuss the same finished area instead of relying on a single total square-metre figure.

Start with a dimensioned vehicle floor drawing

The most useful starting point is a plan view showing the area to be covered. Mark the overall interior length and width, wheel arches, seat mounting zones, doors, steps, inspection covers and other fixed features. If the project includes several vehicle models, provide a separate drawing or dimension set for each model.

• Identify the bus, coach or commercial-vehicle application.
• Show dimensions and the unit of measurement.
• Mark areas that will use a different material or colour.
• State whether the drawing represents one vehicle or a production batch.

Confirm available roll dimensions before fixing the layout

Do not design the final cutting plan around an assumed roll width or roll length. Ask the supplier to confirm the available product format for the selected colour or model. The buyer can then compare that information with the widest floor sections and decide where joints may be acceptable.

If a single-piece section is important, state that requirement clearly. If joints are acceptable, show the preferred locations and explain any installation constraints. This allows the quotation discussion to include both material quantity and practical cutting considerations.

Keep colour and pattern direction consistent

Printed woodgrain and directional designs should be shown with an arrow on the layout. For a coach aisle, buyers often want the visual direction to run consistently through the passenger area, but the final choice should follow the project drawing and sample approval.

Use a physical sample or an agreed product reference when colour matters. Screen images can help with initial selection, but they should not be treated as the only colour-approval method.

Separate the main floor from entrances, aisles and steps

The main passenger floor, entrance platform, aisle edges and steps may have different shapes or installation details. List these areas separately in the inquiry, especially when the buyer is also considering trims or other flooring accessories. A supplier should not infer an accessory requirement from a floor photo alone.

Calculate a review quantity, not a guaranteed cutting yield

A preliminary material estimate can be prepared from the drawing, but cutting yield depends on confirmed roll dimensions, pattern direction, joints and the installer’s method. Buyers should state the number of vehicles and ask for the proposed quantity to be reviewed before placing an order. Avoid treating a simple area calculation as a guaranteed consumption figure.

Information to include in the first quotation request

• Vehicle type and number of vehicles.
• Dimensioned floor drawing for each layout.
• Selected product, colour or sample reference.
• Preferred pattern direction and joint positions.
• Areas requiring separate pieces or accessories.
• Destination country and requested delivery terms.
• Any documents or project requirements that need supplier review.
